The Swedish flotilla Estelle sailed on Saturday from Naples in Italy towards the Gaza Strip as part of the “Freedom Flotilla” movement.
The ship intends to reach the shores of Gaza in two weeks. The crew consists of 17 activists from around the world, including Canada, Israel, Norway, Sweden and the United States. It is said to be carrying humanitarian goods. This is a second attempt to break the blockade last summer with a coalition of ships setting sail from Athens failed after Greek authorities intercepted the boats, banning their departure and towing back into port those who tried to leave.
